Home is where your art is…

The Australia Project

Marvelling at the irony of distance that estranges even the most capable troubadour, can do two things. It can separate you from the familiarity of detail and ironically, bring you closer. Distance is an invisible substance. It can be weighty, it can be light, it can even be close. It can drive you into despair, it can titillate the ventricles into overdrive…Right now, I couldn’t be farther from home. Here I am in Toronto, looking through a frosted window pane at the snow dusted earth penning a new song for ‘The Australia Project’. What can I say? I love Australia. I have vegemite in the fridge. I have UGG Boots on…but so do many Canadians. What’s the difference? The frozen earth can never replace the red sand, paradoxically, the red sand can never replace the frozen earth.

I’ve been away for a long time now but no matter what country I find myself in,
I also find Australia. And so, the new song takes shape.

To be continued…
